Hi! I'm Alana.
I was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, and now based in the Bay of Plenty.
My passion with looking after children came to life was when I was 4 years old and my mum's friend visited with her baby. I picked her up, carried her to my room and played "Mum's and babies" with a real life doll!
Throughout my life, caring for children has remained my major passion and purpose. At high school, I studied Child Development, which was my first formal training in childcare. I first started babysitting at 14, then I went on to University at the age of 16 and gained my Certificate in Early Childhood Education.
While studying Early Childhood Education at University, I realised my passion was to work with children in their home environment using a routine that suited their age and developmental needs.
I then became a professional nanny, working around the world for the past 13 years. I have worked with newborns through to teenagers. I have also worked with multiples including triplets and their siblings within those families.
I have also worked with many different temperments and personalities, including children with developmental delays, both physical and intellectual. Part of my successful career is having experience with many overnight sleepovers with newborns through to teenagers, as well as working as a live-in nanny overseas with babies and children at bedtime and throughout the night.
All my life I thought reading babies cries and cues, understanding toddlers, communicating effectively with pre-schoolers and dealing with older children was something that everyone could do. In recent years it has been pointed out to me that this is not the case, and I have come to realise that I have a gift in understanding children.
This is how the Nanny Consultants came to life.
